Why the recession rocks!
(Or how I learned to stop worrying and love the game)

The times they are a changin'.

Perhaps you have been hit with this sudden economic change. Perhaps for the better, perhaps for the worse.

One thing is true.

With these kind of changes come forced change. What I mean is that people are forced to see things differently.

You see, in times of economic struggle, some people panic and worry and freak out.
Others however are given the opportunity to see things in a different light.

In hard times people often come together.

Is it the end of the world if a young man loses his job and moves back home with his Mother?

Not if they are able to get to know each other again and build a closer bond than they've had in years.

What if a woman is cut back in hours at her job and now finds herself sitting at home four days a week?

This might seem devastating to some, but what if she see's this as her opportunity to start working on something she's been wanting to do for years, like learning an instrument or beginning to craft and manufacture custom clothing or jewelry?

Perhaps you've thought about visiting elderly people who have no one to talk to at your local retirement home, or have talked about meditating more...if you only had more time.

I stepped away from the M-F 9-5 years ago. I don't have Heath care, but I don't get sick. I don't have a retirement plan, but I'm not retired!

I saw that the "safety" net of having a steady job was simply one that was placed there by my own mind.

You can look around and see all of the people who have been suddenly laid off and recognize the truth in this.

Security comes from knowing that you are fulfilling your internal needs and desires.

People have been forced to get creative with the ways they have fun.

Rather than paying $20 for the latest movie, you might read those books that you bought but never got to.

Rather than taking a woman for an expensive dinner/theater experience, you might go to Google and type in, "cheap, fun, exciting dates NYC" and be bombarded with things you never thought to do and a date unlike any she's ever been on and one she'll never forget.

Don't let the times dictate your happiness, recognize that the "reality" around you is only a part of your reality.

The rest is made up of your decisions and actions to lift your head off the pillow and find happiness...regardless of the exchange rate for a picture of a dead president.
